Pune International Marathon

Pune International Marathon is one of the celebrated Festivals and Events in Pune . Locals as well as visitors take part in this festival with great zeal and enthusiasm. The Pune International Marathon is a marathon foot race which is organized in Pune every year.

Pune International Marathon was inaugurated in the year 1983. This marathon race celebrated its 20 th anniversary in the year 2005.Many local, national as well as international runner take part in this race with great enthusiasm. This popular festivals and events of Pune is very popular among the locals and visitors as because every year it organizes a celebrity run. Many popular film personalities and national athletes take part in this event. The celebrities raise money for charitable causes in this event. In this marathon race the runner come across different exotic locations of Pune. Moreover, people queue on both sides of the roads to cheer for the participant. Mobile clinics and are set during this event for its participants. To participate in this event is it necessary to for the marathoners in the men's full marathon category, women's and senior citizens' category to undergo medical treatment.

In the year 2006, the Pune International Marathon approximately attracted 50,000 national and international runners from all across the world. In the 2006 Pune International Marathon almost 40 runners from countries like Mauritius, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Germany, Scotland, Denmark, Japan, Sweden, UK, Nepal, Tajikistan, Sri Lanka, Russia and India took part in the 4.5 km race. Many film celebrities like Aditi Govitrikar ,Amrita Thapar, Varsha Usgaonkar ,Yukta Mookhey, Zeenat Aman and sports stars like tennis champion Leander Paes and Harishchandra Birajdar took part in this mega event. The main motto was to create and spread social awareness about the most HIV / AIDS. All the charity collected in this race was gifted to Project Concern International. This non governmental organization works for the HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention of it in the famous city of Pune.
