Raghurajpur

Raghurajpur is known for its special types of paintings called the Patta Chitra. This is a traditional Indian painting, which is done on cloth. The cloth is first coated with a unique mixture of chalk and gum and left to dry. They are thereafter polished before the actual painting starts. A large number of bright colors like blue, green, red, yellow and others are used to paint the pictures. You can get to see the young and the old sitting in front of their house and painting colorful pictures of flowers, animal, gods and goddesses. These painted cloth, known as 'patta' are used as a backdrop to the idol of the deities.

Raghurajpur is considered as the Heritage Crafts Village of Orissa. The people of this village are extremely talented and are proud to preserve the artistic heritage of India. If you want to visit this place, then you can drive down Bhubaneshwar Road from Puri. One must drive down the national highway 203 near Chandanpur. Once close to Chandanpur Bazaar, one has to take a right turn and thereafter follow the signs to this fabulous place.
