Thereafter, it soon become as the well known dwelling of Purusottama and was commonly known as Purusottama Kshetra. The popular circar includes Jaleswar, Bhadrak, and Kataka, Puri was a part of the Kataka circar If we look at the Puri history we will come to know that till 1816 Puri was the celebrated capital of the province of Orissa and the headquarters of the Collector. In the year 1814 on the month of August a part of the Collector's establishment was removed to Cuttack but it was again brought back to Puri in the month of December. But later on, in the 1816 the headquarters was shifted from Puri to Cuttack. The history of Puri is very rich. The city has become one of popular pilgrimage spot of India. It is located at a distance of 60 kilometers from the fabulous city of Bhubaneshwar.
