Saigal, Prithvi Raj Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Jennifer Kendall, Raj Babbar, Anupam Kher, Manohar Singh, Nasseerudin Shah, regularly performed on the stage of this famous theatre. The neo- Gothic structure of the Gaiety Theatre is built in the style of the prize winning design of Bijou theatre and it is also notable for its quality sound system. The architect, Henry Irwin, designed the building.

Some of the leading theatre personalities like Field Marshal Lord Roberts, Commander-in-Chief of India; Major P.H. Dnyer, Lord Bill Beresford, famous poet and author Rudyard Kipling, Lord Kitchner, Mrs. Deane, Major General Sir Godfrey Williams, Colonel Baden Powell, Sir Dennis Fitz Patrick were associated with the Shimla Amateur Dramatic Club.
