Barog in Shimla

Barog in Shimla is a pretty little place immerging as a tourist-magnet to spend a day in. Barog of Himachal in India used to be an important stop in the early decades of the century when the Kalka-Shimla toy train had stopped here for an hour and the British enjoyed a lavish lunch during that time. The Barog Station happens to be one of the prettiest on this railway with its hanging baskets of pink geraniums. The place along with its station was named after the British engineer Barog. Barog in Shimla is famous for its 1,143 meter long tunnel which is the longest among the 102 on the track. The train takes about three minutes to cover the distance in this tunnel.

You can venture for Barog from Shimla, the Small Train runs between Kalka and Shimla. This train will drop you at Barog. The journey offers charming view of wayside natural beauty. Barog is tucked on a height of 1560 meters above the mean sea level.

The Choor Chandni Peak which poetically means the 'mountain of the silver bangles' is a fine spectacle to behold at moonlit night - moonlight washes down its silver-white slopes and makes it look as if a thousand silver bangles are sliding down the slopes silently. At about 3 km from the Barog Station lies the grave of Barog who committed a suicide after the failure of his venture.
