The beautiful state of Himachal is endowed with a number of springs but incidentally most of those belong to the coldest rivers. Thanks to the unique rock formation of the mountain where Tattapani in Shimla is nestled. Getting To Tattapani: Tattapani of Himachal in India is at a distance of 65 km from the capital city Shimla. The place is tucked on at an altitude of 680 meter. You can cover the distance in car on Shimla-Mandi Highway via Naldehra. The journey form Shimla to Tattapani is an amazing one! The hilly paths offer a charming view of the wayside forest and mountain range. If you venture towards Tattapani in winter, the peaks of the mountain raped in snow will give you a great delight. Attractions in Tattapani: Tattapani's hot water spring itself is the main attraction of the place. A chain of small hot sulphur springs pop up along the right bank of the river Sutlej over an area of one square kilometer. These hot sulphur springs are believed to have medicinal value and a dip in these steaming springs will provide the much-needed relief to the diseased. The hot water ponds though, are different from natural springs. These springs simply vanish when the level of the river rises in June-July and reappear in November-December. Visitors make natural bathtubs with small pebbles and relax in the hot water for hours. This place is also a popular pilgrimage center and in the month of January and February it is considered auspicious for a dip.
