Gulmarg – the meadow of flowers – is blessed by nature’s bounty. This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in the valley. Located at a height of about 2800 meters above sea level, the best time to visit this wonderful place is between November and February to enjoy skiing through the high slopes and trek the verdant slopes. Gulmarg is located in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, about 55 kilometers from Srinagar. There are many places one can visit while touring Gulmarg. A famous skiing spot located near Gulmarg is Khilanmarg which can be accessed by a pony ride. A beautiful lake that remains frozen till the month of June is the Alpather Lake which lies across the Apharwat peak. You may also pay a visit to the shrine of Baba Reshi, a Muslim mystic, while you are on a trip to Gulmarg. The perfect skiing destination for adventure seekers – Gulmarg is where you should head for with complete ski gear like: skis and sticks, snow boots, mufflers, woolen socks, jackets, goggles, etc. Some of the other popular sports you can enjoy in Gulmarg include: golfing or trekking through the Nanga Parbat and Haramukh. Getting to Gulmarg is hardly a problem. The closest airport is at Srinagar with regular flights to all the major cities in India. The nearest railway station is at Jammu.
