Gulmarg

Gulmarg – the meadow of flowers – is blessed by nature’s bounty. This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in the valley. Located at a height of about 2800 meters above sea level, the best time to visit this wonderful place is between November and February to enjoy skiing through the high slopes and trek the verdant slopes. A famous skiing spot located near Gulmarg is Khilanmarg which can be accessed by a pony ride. A beautiful lake that remains frozen till the month of June is the Alpather Lake which lies across the Apharwat peak. You may also pay a visit to the shrine of Baba Reshi, a Muslim mystic, while you are on a trip to Gulmarg. Getting to Gulmarg is hardly a problem. The closest airport is at Srinagar with regular flights to all the major cities in India. The nearest railway station is at Jammu.
