Introduction:

The Southern part of India has remained famous to the rest of the world for its magnificent temples. The state of Karnataka one of the biggest in South India, is also known for its abundance of temples that remains the main sources of tourist attractions. The Bull temple of Mysore is located in the Southern part of India in the state of Karnataka. It was constructed in the 6th century and is dedicated to Nandi, the sacred bull of Lord Shiva. The Structure of the holy bull is carved out of a single block of Granite rock. The temple reflects the specimen of the Dravidian architecture. The Gigantic bull measure 4.57 meters in height and 6.10 meters in length. The temple houses Nandi the Vahana or vehicle of Shiva, along with sculptures of God Surya and goddess Candra on their chariots drawn by horses. Also there is a small lingam shrine bedecked with the exquisite Gopuram. The Bull temple, Mysore comes to liveliness during the Shivratri festival.

How to reach:

The bull temple in Mysore is easily accessible by air. The nearest international airport is Bangalore from where regular taxis are available 24 hrs a day. There are daily flights that connects Bangalore to the rest of the country. The railway station of Mysore is just a mere one hour trail from the temple. Major cities and the metros are connected with Mysore through regular rail services. Other than these two options Mysore can also be accessed through a well maintained network of roads to other major cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and the rest.

Places of Interest:

The Nandi temple holds numerous places of tourist interests in and around it. The temple a holy shrine of the Hindu God Shiva is atop a hill. The statue of bull is a massive structure of the Holy bull Nandi is garlanded. Originally the color of the statue is Bluish brown but has turned out to be shiny black of late due to application of coconut oil by the devotees. The temple also houses an underground temple named Sri Gavi Gandadheshwara, which is equally fascinating.

Shopping:

During the Shivratri festival the Bull temple, Mysore becomes a buzz with great activity. On the premises of the temple fairs are held where one can see and buy a lot of articles and handicrafts that are hand made by the locales.
