Everyday is a new celebration with so many Events and Festivals in Trivandrum observed throughout the year. This culturally rich region of India proudly celebrates some of the most traditional and ancient festivals of India. Observed in the first month of the year January is the Great Elephant Race in Trivandrum , which is one of the most popular festivals of Kerala. Besides Trivandrum this unique event also takes place in a few major cities of Kerala such as Thrichur and Alappuzha. At the Great Elephant Race in Trivandrum you can witness a 101 tusked elephants adorned with jewels and bright cloths parading through the streets. Tourists from all over the world as well as local people crowd on both sides of the road to see these parades of majestic elephants. Starting at Trichur the Great Elephant Race ends at Trivandrum. You can feed these elephants and also ride on them, which would give you a kingly feeling. Feeding the elephants is in fact observed as a special ceremony that allows the spectators to have a closer look at the elephants. From 17th to 20 th January special tourists' events of the Great Elephant Race in Trivandrum are held. Taking the tourists through picturesque green countryside on an elephant safari, the festival begins on seventeenth afternoon from Trichur. This journey finally comes to an end after 3 days at Vilangankunnu in Trivandrum. You can check out the village fairs, held at night, in the most traditional manner. On the second day of the festival you can get around some of the most exotic locations in Cochin. On the third day visitors can relax and enjoy a boat ride on the backwaters at Alappuzha followed by a snake boat race. The final day of the festival is observed in Thiruvananthapuram or Trivandrum. With a procession or elephants decorated brightly and showing off its unique colored umbrella and a flag of the temple it is representing its quite a scene to be observed.
