History of Trivandrum:
A city constructed around seven hills; Trivandrum reached fame in sometime around the year 1750, when it became the famed capital city of the Raja of Travancore. The city was then named after the dwelling place of the mythical serpent 'Ananta'- 'Tiru Ananta Puram' - who serves as the Lord Vishnu's familiar. Even way before that, the city of Trivandrum was a popular trading post; mainly doing business in spices, ivory and sandalwood. However, much of the city remained unchanged politically and socially until early in the 19th century.
Location of Trivandrum:
The city of Trivandrum located right at the southern most tip of the state of Kerala. A port city, the city of Trivandrum is in the western coast of the country of India; at the extreme of the mainland.

Not too far from the Equator, the city had a climate of the tropics. Trivandrum is a coastal city, so there is not much of a seasonal temperature distinction that the city experiences; only a mild flux. Generally humid, the humidity further rockets during the monsoons from the month of June. The winter months arrive with December and last up till February. Summers begin from March and continue until the monsoons.

A beautiful city, Trivandrum has over the recent years blossomed into a thriving tourist hub. Even until then, the city had its share of visitors, but most of these visitors came on pilgrimages. However, today, the city of Trivandrum has as many pilgrims stepping into its precincts as tourists.
