History of Udaipur
Maharana Udai Singh established the city of Udaipur in Rajasthan after being thrown out of Chittorgarh by Akbar. The city is named after him. In fact it was on the advice of a sage that he decided to build this 'City of Lakes'. After him the glory of the Sisodia Dynasty was taken forward by the chivalrous Maharana Pratap Singh. The tale of friendship between the Rana and his horse, Chetak is very popular. During the rule of the Rajputs Usdaipur never submitted to the Mughals. Its undying spirit of pride, gallantry and strength can be found written on every wall of the city's palaces.
