HISTORY OF CHANDRAPRABHA SANCTUARY: In the year 1957 Chandraprabha Sanctuary, Varanasi was constituted. In the year 1958, Asiatic lions were brought in. Though initially the number of lions was increasing, eventually lions were found missing. In 1993 the plan to include lions in Chandraprabha Sanctuary, Varanasi was made. However the plan did not take any concrete shape. ANIMALS IN CHANDRAPRABHA SANCTUARY, VARANASI: Asiatic Lions were found in great number at the Sanctuary. But now their numbers have decreased. But one can find a fair collection of Chinkara and Panther in the Sanctuary. Sambhar, Nilgai, Blackbucks, porcupine and wild boar are some of the animals found in the Sanctuary. About hundred and fifty birds can be found in the Sanctuary. CLIMATE OF CHANDRAPRABHA SANCTUARY, VARANASI: The climate is about thirty eight degree Celsius during the summer months. While during winter season temperature is about fourteen degree Celsius. From the month of July to the middle of September the monsoon remains. FLORA AND FAUNA OF CHANDRAPRABHA SANCTUARY: One will be gifted with a diverse variety of flora and fauna at the Sanctuary. Apart from the other wild animals such as black bucks and panther and so on there are a wide range of reptiles such as python, gharial etc. Dry deciduous forest constitutes the fauna of the Sanctuary.
