In the past, there was one of the most ancient shrines, the Temple of Bindu Madhava. This reflects a smooth coexistence of the Hindu and the Muslim religions.
The Alamgir Mosque, Varanasi overlooks the Panchganga Ghat which is considered to be a sacred bathing place. Interestingly, the lower part of the mosque still features a Hindu temple. The exquisite design of this mosque indicates the rich artworks of ancient India.
