The land of Varanasi (Kashi) has been the famous pilgrimage spot for Hindus for ages. The holy city is situated on the banks of the river Ganges in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Often referred to as Benares, Varanasi is the oldest living city in the world. It is said to be the abode of Lord Shiva and Parvati. The city is famous for its temples, silk sarees. It is also the land where many famous exponents from art, music and culture were born. Varanasi is a city where the past and present live side by side. Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple is one of the sacred temples of Hindu god Hanuman in the city of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. Hanuman is supposed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The word Sankat Mochan means liberator from troubles. Tulsidas, the author of the famous Hindu epic Ramacharitamanasa, founded the Sankat Mochan temple.

According to the Hindu Mythology it is believed that if someone visits this temple regularly, his or her wishes will get fulfilled. Every Tuesday and Saturday, thousands of people from different parts queue up in front of the temple to offer prayers to Lord Hanuman and attain his blessings. According to Vedic Astrology, Hanuman saves human being from the anger of planet Saturn and people having ill placed Saturn in their horoscope especially visit to this temple to get astrological remedy.

It is said that orange coloured “sindoor” appeases Hanuman so People put "Sindoor" on the statue and offer "laddoos" to the Lord. The "Sindoor", from the statue of Lord Hanuman is put on the foreheads of devotees.

Sankat Mochan temple is near to the famous Banaras Hindu University. The temple is located at the Durga Kund Road. The best time to visit the temple is in the early evening.
