Location of Lombok: A picturesque Island in West Nusa in the Tenggara province of Indonesia. About the place: The Island terrain is chiefly dictated by the Stratovolcano Mount Rinjani, one of the highest peak in Indonesia. The southern portion of the island is fecund cultivable land. Tourism is one of the chief contributor to the island’s economy. Trekking is the most coveted and enjoyable activity of the tourists in this beautiful isle. Where to Trek? Mount Rinjani with its forested slopes and an exotic fare of fauna is the main attraction of this island. This volcano is venerated as a consecrated domicile of deities. The Segare Anak crater lake is a destination of umpteen pilgrims who offer prayers to the lake and take dip in the hot springs to cure away their diseases. Trekkers just love to hike here. Trekking is an uphill task in Mount Rinjani. But every year a huge number of people visit Lombok only to experience this thrilling adventure on the slopes of Rinjani. It takes about three days to reach the summit and come down. Trekking Routes: Rinjani is encircled by 20 little hamlets and there are plenty of routes to reach the summit, but there are only two main accesses to it. First is Semaru in the north and second is Sembalun Lawang in the East. The trek route from Senaru to Plawangan , then down to the amazing crater lake to Sembalun is regarded as the best trek in entire south-east asia. Starting Point: The Rinjani Trek Centre in Senaru is the best starting point for this tough trek. Look out for: While on your way to the summit, watch out for the stupendous variety of flora and fauna at the Gunung Rinjani National Park. Though its difficult enough to spot the animals due to the thick foliage but sometimes a rare black ebony monkey or a sulphur crested cockatoo may pop out infront of you and fulfill your desire.
Caveat : Trekking in Lombok is just a synonym of The Rinjani Trek. Walking up the mountain is very exigent. One needs to be well furnished with equipments, warm and windproof attire. Severe gale, lightening and tempests are characteristic of Rinjani so one has to be alert about it. Some part of the trail is vertical and slimy, especially in the wet season. Generally the days are sunny with chilly nights. Snakes and stinging insects may also cause hindrances along the way. Moreover the volcano is active and the eruptions are unpredictable. So you need to have loads of guts while hiking out there. Suggestions for the trekkers: It is advisable not to litter the impeccable nature around and so the trekkers are prohibited from bringing plastic bottles and stuff like that. While camping on any part of the trail keep a watch that the when you leave the place the next visitor is never made to feel it. Trekking In Lombok gives the experience of a lifetime. Its like taking out the heart on your sleeves and feeling the excitement of every moment till you reach the peak and atlast savouring the success of being a winner. It gives you the bliss of overpowering nature.
