When to go to Semarang

Indonesia - Jakarta - Lombok - Semarang - Solo - Yogyakarta - Bali
Semarang is located on the northern coast of Java. The northern part of the city is built on the coastal plain while the southern parts, known as Candi Lama and Candi Baru, are on higher ground. Semarang houses a number of tourists attraction places and at the same time hosts a number of evens. When to go to Semarang is often a big question to the visitors. Well, you can drop in anytime of the year or even during any festival or event.

Semarang is very close to equator so it has a very hot and humid climate throughout the year. The monsoons start from December to March, so it is advisable not o visit during this time because road travel can be difficult during the rainy season. The best time of the year is the dry seasons from April to October. Festivals in Semarang attract many visitors.

Muharam which is the Muslim New Year which is held in April is one of the greatest events not only in Semarang but throughout Indonesia. You can come and be a part of this holy festival. Idul Ad'ha held also in April is another important festival throughout Indonesia. Held in May, the Ruwatan Traditional Ceremony is another important festival held in Semarang. It is quiet unique to Semarang. During this festival is basically a sacrificial ceremony of Javanese tradition to avoid disasters which are symbolized by Sang Batharakala (Bas Dewa) which takes revenge against unlucky children such as: one son or one daughter only in a couple, two daughters, two sons, etc.

Dugderan Festival is celebrated with great pomp and show every year in December or January. It is unique to Semarang. Dugderan Festival is organized during the week before the commencement of Ramadan, the month during which Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. The Muslims sound the big drum and have a fireworks display. These announce the official onset of the Ramadan, the fasting month. Casual light or summer clothing suits the climate here, but for travel to mountain areas in West Java bring a light sweater or jacket. For formal occasions a jacket and tie are required or along-sleeved Batik shirt is also accepted.

So, when to go to Semarang depends on when you want to visit this place. But whenever you come you will like this place.
