Borobudur, Solo is located near Magelang of Central in Java Indonesia. It lies to the north west of Jogyakarta. It is arguably the most famous temple in Indonesia. Borobudur is a Buddhist pyramid that was constructed in the ninth century. The monument is referred to be the largest Buddhist shrine in the nation.
The Buddhist Mahayana monument of Borobudur lay neglected beneath the thick layers of volcanic ash for more than a thousand years. What looks like an ordinary stone-built monument from a distance is actually a wonderful work of architecture. The entire structure is based on six square platforms and three circular platforms. There are 504 statues of Lord Buddha and about 2,672 relief panels ornate the monument of Borobudur. The main dome of the shrine is located at the center of the platform on the top. The whole structure of Borobudur, Solo is encircled by seventy-two Buddhist stupas, each containing one sitting Buddha statue.
Since the year 1991, Borobudur, Solo has been given the stature of a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The shrine of Borobudur is a famous Buddhist pilgrimage that attracts thousands of tourists and religious people from different corners of the world. Borobudur is a place that receives more number of tourists and visitors than anywhere else in Indonesia. The statues and sculptures of Borobudur represent Buddhist teachings. Visitors can also get an idea about the life of the inhabitants of Java about a thousand years back.
