This is actually the German (Templar) Colony, however, here the word ‘Templar’ does not stand for the Knights of the Templars. At the foot of the Bahai Gardens, in the year 1868, German Colony was established by Georg David Hardegg who came from Wuttemberg, Germany to Haifa and was a member of the Templar Society. Along with him, came Christoph Hoffman who later established the second Templar community in Jaffa.

After purchasing land far from the city and building the first planned agricultural community in this Holy Land, German Colony in Haifa in Israel contributed greatly to Haifa's development at the time.

In that period the main street of the colony was the cause for much admiration. This street was 30 meters wide and dotted with trees on both sides. Regarding the houses, these were all built of stone, under the management of the architect Ya'akov Shumacher and boasted red-shingled roofs.
