Nablus is popularly known as Shekhem to the local Israelites. The city of Nablus is located 42 kilometers from the city of Tel Aviv and around 60 kilometers from Jerusalem. Nablus is an industrial Town famous for its local soap making factories. It is also a major canter of Arab Nationalism on the West Bank region and is under the Palestinian Authority.

The city of Nablus lies at between two major commercial roads in Israel. One of the roads link the coastal Plain of Sharon with the Jordan valley and the other connect Nablus to the Galilee and Judea to the south.

Nablus in Israel is widely regarded as a significant city to the three Abrahamic faiths – Christians, Jews and Muslims along with Samaritanism.

Located in the Central Highlands of the West Bank, the city of Nablus has a number of religious sites such as the Jospeh’s Tomb and the Greek Orthdox Monastery. The other places of attractions in Nablus include Tell Balata, the site of Shechem, the ancient city of the state of Israel. The Kasbah, the main market is another must while on a visit to the city. The Hammam or the Turkish bath in the old city of Nablus is also widely visited by the tourists.

Nablus also houses the An-Najah National University which is considered as the largest Palestinian university. The University is also the location of the Palestine Stock Exchange, Palestine Communications Company and AMRA Information Technology. The town is a major business and agricultural center and is popular for its traditional industries. These include the factories of soap, olive oil and traditional handicrafts. Other local industries include leather tanning, wood furniture, tile production and textile manufacturing.

The city is famous for its market architecture and the traditional delicacy of knafeh – a local dessert. So while visiting Nablus, one of Israel’s popular destinations one should not miss to taste this delicious dessert served with sugar syrup.
