Nablus is popularly known as Shekhem to the local Israelites. The city of Nablus is located 42 kilometers from the city of Tel Aviv and around 60 kilometers from Jerusalem. Nablus is an industrial Town famous for its local soap making factories. It is also a major canter of Arab Nationalism on the West Bank region and is under the Palestinian Authority. The city of Nablus lies at between two major commercial roads in Israel. One of the roads link the coastal Plain of Sharon with the Jordan valley and the other connect Nablus to the Galilee and Judea to the south. The town is a major business and agricultural center and is popular for its traditional industries. These include the factories of soap, olive oil and traditional handicrafts. Other local industries include leather tanning, wood furniture, tile production and textile manufacturing. The city is famous for its market architecture and the traditional delicacy of knafeh – a local dessert.
