Cinemas in Jerusalem

Israel - Eilat - Haifa - Jerusalem - Tel Aviv
Jerusalem is a great place for the film lovers whether you are looking for the recent Hollywood blockbuster or a recent release by Pedro Almodovar or Takeshi Kitano or even if you want a taste of Israeli films. The audience in Jerusalem is as enthusiastic as in any part of the world. Most of the English movies are screened in their original version with just the Hebrew subtitles except the children's films are dubbed. Other than that the other foreign films are played in their original language but have English and Hebrew subtitles.

Some of the popular mainstream cinemas in Jerusalem are Rav-Chen, GG Gil, Jerusalem Mall and Lev Smadar. The above are highly regarded since they are nice and comfortable art cinema houses. On the other hand, the best place for cinema in Jerusalem is the Cinematheque, at the Jerusalem Film Center, Hebron.
The Cinematheque, Jerusalem is a prime destination for movie buffs. The Cinematheque plays old classics as well as new releases, world cinema, documentaries and some independent films you will rarely see anywhere else. The Cinematheque also houses the Israel Film Archive which is a research institute or an education centre, and has an extensive film library for students, scholars and researchers. Every year in July, the Cinematheque in Jerusalem hosts the annual Jerusalem Film Festival. It is held in several venues around town. The festival draws many guests and tourists from across the world and it is Israel's most important annual film event.
Most of the cinema houses are open seven days a week whereas some choose to stay closed during Shabbat that is Fridays evenings and Saturday afternoons until sundown. There are many restaurants and eateries near and around the cinemas in Jerusalem where you can enjoy your meals and beverages before catching up with the movies.
