The Jerusalem Theater or the Jerusalem Centre for the Performing Arts is located in one of the most impressive residential neighborhoods in the heart of the city of Jerusalem. Jerusalem Theater is the largest and most active cultural center in Jerusalem since its inception in the year 1975.
The Jerusalem Theater is built in a modern complex which has four well-equipped and beautifully decorated halls. The four halls are; the Sherover Theatre which seats 950, the Henry Crown Symphony Hall (home of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra) has a capacity of 750 seats, the Rebecca Crown Auditorium has 450 seats, and the Little Theatre can seat 110 people. The Centre also includes spacious foyers. Apart from that The Jerusalem Theater also houses a bookshop, a well known cafeteria, a restaurant and large plazas outside.
The Jerusalem Centre is a non-profit public organization, who aims at offering high quality and wide-ranging cultural activities to Israeli people, as well as guests and tourists from abroad.
The Jerusalem Centre funds Israeli plays in Hebrew and in English for the audience. The people are guaranteed a consistent choice of interesting performances and plays in this public institution. There is a large variety in the offering like the Israeli comedies and children’s' Saturday shows. Others also include contemporary dances and alternative performances portraying the consciousness of religion and ritual.
The Jerusalem Centre has no dramatic, dance or musical companies under its own wing, yet the Centre plays host to numerous top local and foreign productions from across the globe. The theater also hosts performances and recitals of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and the Israel Chamber Ensemble. The Israel Philharmonic also performs in this theatre. The Henry Crown Auditorium hosts the Etnacha Concert Series, produced by Israel Radio's classics station from October to early June.
