This tribute to the victims of the Holocaust was established in 1953. The name has its origin in Hebrew Bible in the words ‘a memorial and a name’. The building of the Yad Vashem in Jerusalem was designed by the architect Moshe Safdie and the new building was inaugurated in March 15, 2005. It is said to resemble the lower half of the Star of David.

- The International School for Holocaust Studies have 17 classrooms, multimedia center and a resource and pedagogical center, auditorium and educators and is the only school of its kind present in the world.
- The International Institute for Holocaust Research is always coordinating on research on holocaust and organizes various conferences and publishes a lot of work on holocaust.
- Yad Vashem Studies is nothing but a series of 32 volumes of work on holocaust.
- Yad Vashem Publications publishes books, diaries and documents on holocaust in both Hebrew and English.
- The Holocaust History Museum is a prism-like structure with concrete walls, having 10 exhibition hall each of which is dedicated to a particular chapter on holocaust. It has the distinction of being the largest holocaust museum in the world.
In the art museum you will find many works of art and presentations and personal artifacts donated to Yad Vashem in Jerusalem by the survivors of the holocaust.
- The avenue and the garden of the Yad Vashem in Jerusalem are used for honor the ‘Righteous Among the Nations’. Here you will find plaques in the trees with the name of the people along with their residence country.
Two ceremonies are held at the Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. These are Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day, which normally takes place at the end of April or the beginning of May. The other one is the Victory in Europe Day, celebrated every year in the month of May.
