L .A. Mayer Institute of Islamic Art Israel in Jerusalem is located near the residence of the president of Israel. The famous Jerusalem theater is also near to this museum. It was established in the year 1974 and is constituted by late Mrs. Vera Bryce Salomons. This museum keeping up the 'Islamic art' is one of the famous Museums in Israel. Mrs. Vera Bryce Salomons had an interest in the art and culture of Islam. Islam is known as a religion to many but is not just a religion . Islam is a world culture. The territorial dominion where people following the Islamic culture lived produced works of art. These work were later made popular and the term 'Islamic Art ' was coined for it. The 'Islamic art' has certain characteristic style to it. All the works produced render the use of the common handwriting . But the form and the ornamentation done on the works have differences as they are produced in different countries and in different eras. Mrs. Salomons semblance for the 'Islamic art ' made her open the L.A.Mayer Institute for Islamic Art in Israel. This institute is dedicated to her professor,Prof L.A,Mayer whose death took place in 1959. Mrs. Vera Bryce Salomons believed that by opening an institute of Islamic Art it will bridge the gap between the Israeli and Arabs. The L .A. Mayer Institute for Islamic Art Israel consists of nine galleries in total displaying the art,culture and faith of the Islamic civilization. The exhibits include pottery , jewelry , textiles and ceremonial items dealing with the Islamic art . The museum also stores Prof .Mayer's private collection of Islamic art. The museum also have art objects like chess pieces, eye masks, daggers, swords, helmets, textiles ,glass items, which forms the core of the museum. The galleries have the displays in chronological order helping the visitors to understand the life and the art of the Islamic countries at that point of time. One of the museum's gallery is dedicated to David Salomons collection. It comprises of watches and clocks of 18th and 19th century. The European music boxes and the time pieces are very unique and are liked by the visitors.
