Neve Tzedek is a Hebrew word which means Oasis of Justice. It is the foremost neighbourhood of the city of Tel Aviv -Jaffa. The founder of this place was Aharon Shlush. It was actually founded much before the city of Tel Aviv . By profession Shlush was a businessmen who wanted to avoid the crowded quarters of Jaffa and so came to this place. This place has retained its old charm while the newly found Tel Aviv has become modern and fast. This place was also the home of the nobel prize winning author and poet Shemeul Agnon,. In Neve Tzedek there is the Shlush house ,a synagogue and the Rokach House Museum.
Shimon Rokach was born in Jerusalem and he came to Jaffa in 1884. He was a active public worker whose main duty was to collect the tolls from the Jaffa -Jerusalem road. He pioneered the plantation of Orange grooves in this region and also owned a property which was turned into a cementry later on.. Many prominent personalities of Neve Tzedek are buried in this Trumpeldor Cementry. Rokach 's son served under Tel Aviv’s first mayor and later took over the post himself.
Neve Tzedek was established becaese the city of Jaffa was crowded and it was not peaceful. But with the development of the city of Tel Aviv there was a rapid deterioration in Neve Tzedek. The house was desolated and was falling down . The condition was such that the government authorities was ready to demolish the old house. This move was objected by Rokach's grand daugher, Lea Majaro- Mintz .She took the responsibilty of reconstructing this historical property.
Rokach House Museum Tel Aviv is a private museum that puts up various exhibitions ,cultural events and works of Majaro-Mintz.
