Tel Aviv is the center of Israeli art and culture. There are number of fine Museums in Tel Aviv. The Tel Aviv Museum of Art was opened to public in 1932 in the house of the first mayor of the city , Meir Dizengoff. The Tel Aviv Museum of Art soon became the focal point in the field of art showcasing local as well as foreign tourists. The over whelming success of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and the increasing collections made the museum to change the location to the Shaul Hamelekh street in the year 1971. In 1999 a new extension was added to the main building.

The Tel Aviv Museum of Art has several departments which houses classical and modern art . The main focus is on the Israeli Art which reflects the developments in the paintings from the 1920's to the present day. It also depicts the history of Palestine and the state of Israel in the paintings. The collection of modern paintings shows the trends of modernism on art . Among the collection of the paintings there are several masterpieces like Friedericke Maria Beer by Austrian artist Gustav Klimt and Untitled Improvisation V by Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky.

The Tel Aviv Museum of Art stores a good collection of early paintings and sculptures of Archipanko donated before its opening. The museum has about 20,000 prints and drawings and is increasing everyday.

Classical and jazz music concerts are organized by the music department . The two music halls , Recanti auditorium and the Kaufmann – Gitter Auditorium. The Education department of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art helps in interpreting and teaching the exhibits to the school children, artists and the general visitor. The museum also has a shop that sells a wide array of products related to art like books, greetings cards and classical music. Special events , permanent exhibitions and cultural program's for the adults and the children are held in the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
