Tel Aviv is the second largest city in Israel after the capital Jerusalem. It is situated in the coastal area of the Mediterranean Sea . Israel , regarded by many as the holy land is a country of historical past having a religious background. This is the world’s only Jewish state . The city of Tel Aviv is a part Gush Dan , a large metropolitan areas in Israel. The language of the place is Hebrew . In Hebrew the city name means 'hill of spring' . The history of Tel Aviv is not very old but a lot of events occured it the short span . The creation of this city took place in the year 1909. During that period the country was under the Ottoman Empire . The city and the port of Jaffa was a important commercial and residing center but with increase in population and discontentment with the local rulers made some population to move to the neighbourhood areas. The construction of the areas started in 1909 on a small scale . In the next year the name of the place was adopted with common consent. In 1920's and 1930's Jewish immigrants from European countries started settling in this area . The development of this city and the designing was done by Patrick Geddes in the year 1925. The Europeans brought with them fresh ideas and new culture which soon got mixed and the city grew to be the center of Israel's commercial and tourist capital.The impact of the world war two made millions of survivours move to this area. In 1948 when Israel a was made a state , the population of the city increased even further. Tel Aviv has also witnessed some wars of terrorism but it has made the people even more stronger.
