Prince Takamatsu relay race originated in paying respect and homage to his Imperial Highness Prince Takamatsu of Japan. His life span continued from 1905 January 3rd to 1987 February 3rd. he was the third son of Emperor Taisho and was also the younger brother of Emperor Showa. Prince Takamatsu from mid-1920s till the end of World War II pursued a career in the Japanese Imperial Navy and was gradually elevated to the rank of captain. After the war he became patron of various organizations in the realms of international cultural exchange, arts, sports, and medicine. People till date remember him for his philanthropic activities as a member of the Japanese imperial family.
