Fukuoka Castle

Japan - Fukuoka - Kobe - Nagoya - Tokyo - Osaka - Hiroshima - Kyoto - Yokohama
Fukuoka is located on the northern shore of Kyushu Island and is very close to Busan in South Korea, in fact it is just across Tsushima Strait. Among many attractions of the city, one of the attractions of Fukuoka is the Fukuoka Castle.

Fukuoka Castle was once a very big castle with 47 large and small turrets. But today, it is mostly in ruins with only one turret known as Tamon Turret and Otemon Gate existing. According to the legends Fukuoka Castle had taken seven years to build. It was constructed during the times of Nagamasa Kuroda, who was a feudal lord of Chikuzen. The most enticing feature of this castle is that cherry trees, which create a beautiful sight in cherry blossom season, surround it.

Fukuoka Castle though now in ruins still retains its charms and air of grandeur. One can spend some solitary hours appreciating the age and time in which Castle of Fukuoka had been built. The castle had a moat once, which was a feature of all castles in ancient times; this was because of security reasons. Today, there is a beautiful park called Ohori Park, which has been built with parts of the castle’s former moat.
