Located in Nakasu-kawabata, Fukuoka Hakata Machiya Folk Museum has attracted the attention of the tourists as well as the visitors. This museum enables the visitors to acquire some knowledge about the lifestyle of the people who belonged to the Meiji and the Taisho period. This museum is comprised of three buildings, out of which two are a replica of the buildings that existed in the Meiji era.

The objects that are displayed in Hakata Machiya Folk Museum of Fukuoka are the boxes that were used for carrying food, combs etc that were made out of wood, the famous ori- cloth of Hakata, various kinds of dolls and various types of tops. It also features panoramas that would give a general idea about the daily schedule of life that were followed by the people of the Taisho and the Meiji period, a house, that resembles the house of a merchant. The museum also makes arrangements for a 20 minutes movie. This film deals with the major festival that is held in Fukuoka, known as Yamakasa Festival. This film depicts the race, where men carrying the burden of floats are seen competing against each other.

It also showcases Japanese paintings of reputed artists like, Shigeru Aoki, Andy Warhol, Hanjiro Sakamoto, Joan Miro, Marc Chagall, Shigeru Aoki and Aoki. It also features a library and a reading room. Hakata Machiya Folk Museum of Fukuoka open daily for 8 hours that is from 10.00am to 6.00pm.
