The flower festival as the name suggest is a festival of flowers and it takes place in the golden week, which attracts an accumulated holiday of about a week. This festival usually lasts for a couple of days in the month of May and gives immense scope and opportunity to the people of Hiroshima to indulge in some flowery activities.

The festival is held on green stages of the Peace Avenue and comprises of activities like dancing, parading and music that generally form an important part of the festival. The Flower festival of Hiroshima is a symbol of peace and tranquility and gives opportunity to the civilians to rekindle their love for flowers. It has to be remembered that the city has a soft corner for flowers; Oleander is conferred with the status of being the official flower of the city since this flower was the first to bloom after the horrific atom bomb blasts.

The city during the festival puts on a different look altogether as the main streets are decorated with different varieties of flowers, which add a different character to the city.
