Hiroshima Tram Service

Hiroshima is a highly urbanized city equipped with a well-developed transport system. A dense network of rail and bus routes runs through the city, linking the different parts with regular transport. The railroads in Hiroshima are particularly good and serve well as one of the fastest means of transport. The tram service in Hiroshima deserves a special mention here, as the tram route is a well-organized system and one of the most popular means of transport in the city.

Hiroshima Electric Railway Co., or Hiroden operated the trams, or streetcars, as they are popularly called in Hiroshima. The tramline winds down the city for a stretch of more than 18 kilometers, linking the most important areas.

Presently there are about seven tram routes in Hiroshima:
Main Line
Ujina Line
Eba Line
Hakushima Line
Hijiyama Line or Minani Line
Yokogawa Line
Miyajima Line

Except the Miyajima line, the others fall under the Inner City Line. The trains link the Hiroshima station to Hiroshima Port, Hiroden-miyajima-guchi, and Eba. A few trains also run from the Yokogawa Station to Hiroden-honsha-mae and Eba.

Apart from the conventional streetcars, Hiroshima is served by the LRT trains, which run between Hiroshima and Nishi. These trains are use highly advanced technologies to travel in a remarkable speed. They have an inbuilt GPS system than enables the passengers to locate the position of the trams, and thus avail of the nearest train.

More than 250 trams run across Hiroshima today. A vast network of multicolored trams covers most of the major streets. These streetcars are indeed the best way of exploring Hiroshima as they take one to a fascinating ride through the historic city.
