Polity of Japan is shaped by the McArthur constitution imposed in the post World War II. The king is the supreme head of the state. But the government is carried on by the cabinet headed by the Prime Minister. The legislature consists of two houses. The polity is largely modeled on the pattern of Anglo-Saxon system of Government as in India and the UK. The constitution is a pacifist one and renounces war.
The constitution is fundamental to the economy and polity of Japan. It declares "sovereign power resides with the people". The government is a revered trust of the people. Its authority is derived from the people and the powers are exercised by the legislature of the people for the benefits of the people. "The rights and duties of the people" are notably featured in the constitution. "Liberty of speech, writing, publication, public meetings, and associations", are granted "within the limits of law" along with freedom of religious belief.
Economy of Japan is based on industrialized, free-market economy. Now it is the world's fourth-largest power in purchasing power parity (PPP). Japan is the biggest economy by market exchange rates. Her economy is highly proficient and aggressive in international trade, though productivity is low in agriculture, mining and services. A strong work ethic and high technology have helped Japan move forward with extraordinary speed to join of the richest economies in the world. Its industrial leadership and technician work force, high savings and investment rates along with intensive promotion of industrial expansion and foreign trade have formed a mature industrial economy. Japan Economy and Politics can best be described as a intermittent relationship between the Government and the business houses.
Japan is also well advanced in intensive agriculture and fishing. Rice is the most important crop. Japan ranks second in the world in tonnage of fish caught. Japanese have one of the world's leading fishing fleets accounting for nearly 15% of the global catch. In the fields like motor vehicle, semiconductor manufacturing, facsimile, optical fibers, optoelectronics, optical media, copy machines, industrial robots, and fermentation processes in food and biochemistry Japan is the world leader.
