Takarazuka Grand Theater

The Takarazuka Grand Theater , located in Takarazuka in the Hyogo prefecture, is surely one of a kind. It is nothing like any other theater or performance gallery not just in Japan but also in the whole world. The Takarazuka Grand Theater, Kobe hosts only all women song and dance and theatrical performances.

The Grand Theater of Takarazuka, Japan is home to the worlds only all girls' theater company the Takarazuka Revue. The company began by its first performance in 1914. The troupe is further divided into several groups called the “Star Troupe”, “Snow Troupe”, ‘Moon Troupe”, “Flower Troupe”, “Cosmos Troupe” and “Special Course Troup”. The troupe began as a local attraction but has gradually increased its fan following and has now become of great global interest.

The Takarazuka Revue stages performances in front of the international audiences and in many theaters of Japan along with the Takarazuka Theatre in Tokyo. However its base is in the Grand Theatre, Takarazuka in Kobe . This theatre established in 1924 has a gallery with seating accommodation for 3,000 audiences.

Once you are at the Takarazuka Grand Theater, be prepared to witness ladies on stage, clad in men's clothing and sporting a moustache. Accompanied by a lovely orchestra and decked in rich traditional costumes the women artists present some marvelous musicals. Their performances are extremely fascinating; enough to keep the audience mesmerized right from the lifting of the curtains till they pulled down. The Theater Company at Takarazuka specializes in staging musical adaptations of classics, such as ‘Gone With The Wind' and ‘War and Peace' and numerous others.

The Takarazuka Grand Theater is a must visit if you are planning a trip to Kobe. The town of Takarazuka is located in the suburbs of Kobe, half way towards Osaka. To attract more audiences, the theater premise also has the Takarazuka Family Land, a theme park which can be visited with the theatre ticket itself.
