Kobe City Rokkosan Pasture

Japan - Fukuoka - Kobe - Nagoya - Tokyo - Osaka - Hiroshima - Kyoto - Yokohama

The peak of Mt. Rokko, located to the north of the Kobe City, offers a spectacular view of the Kobe City Rokkosan Pasture. This Rokkosan Pasture is a lush green meadowland to the west of Mt Rokko, where cattle and sheep, goats, ponies, horses and donkeys graze freely. The visitors are impressed by the sprawling lawns and develop affection for the animals here. Visitors partake in activities such as shearing wool from the sheep and churning the goats' milk to make butter and cheese. The cheese produced here is called Camenbert cheese and is very famous for its texture and excellent taste. This 120-hectare pasture is Kobe's indigenous version of the Swiss Alps and the Rokkosan Pasture Spring Fair held in March every year attracts a large crowd.

The Kobe City Rokkosan Pasture can be easily reached by a 30-minute bus ride from the Hankyu Rokko Station. These bus services operate daily during summers and on weekends the rest of the year round.

The Kobe City Rokkosan Pasture is open to visitors from 9 am to 5 pm everyday except Tuesdays. However the pasture remains closed from December 29th to January 1st. A fee of ¥350 is charged per adult and ¥150 per child as entrance fee.
