Arima, the oldest spa areas Of Japan, is known for the natural hot springs when people had no idea of digging. Now with the blessings of advanced technology, the possibilities of man made hot water springs have grown manifold.

Recognized as the hot springs with a host of rare minerals and natural ingredients the springs have gained world wide prominence. The waters of the springs contain 7 ingredients out of a total of 9 elements that are considered as the useful for medical treatment. History

Onamichi- no- mikoto and Sukunahikona- no-mikoto discovered the hot springs. History says that when the two gods and three crows drank the waters from the springs they found that their injuries were cured. The place then came to be known as” Three crows of Arima”.

Popular belief

It is commonly believed that a Holy Priest Gyoki constructed the Onsenji temple in the Nara Period. Since then Arima is blessed to have natural springs. The temple that guards the Yakushi Buddha is said to have been sculpted by Unkei and Tankei. The place has three springs namely Kinsen, Ginsen and Tansan-sen. The first one is a golden water spring, the second is a hot water spring with no colors and the third one is a carbonic acid hot spring. All the three are believed to a have a magical effect on diseases.

Attractions

Visitors enjoy a bath in the hot springs. The water -baths comes in various forms. There is the rotemburo which is the outdoor bath that attracts a great number of tourists. Also participate in the festivals and the events that take pace all round the year.
