Ikuta Shrine Kobe
Japan - Fukuoka - Kobe - Nagoya - Tokyo - Osaka - Hiroshima - Kyoto - Yokohama -
Considered to be one of the oldest shrines in Osaka, the Ikuta shrine is a Shinto Shrine in the Chuo Ward of Kobe. Emperor Jingu found the shrine in the 3 rd century BC to enshrine the Kami Wakahirume and also for a festival welcoming the soldiers who came back after attempting to invade Korea. During this time other two very important shrines were constructed- the Hirota Shrine of Amaterasu and the Nagata Shrine of Koto Shiro Nushi.
The Ikuta shrine in Kobe is famous for the battle of Ichi – no – Tani in and around its periphery and is venerated by markers present in the Ikuta forest just behind it. Initially the land on which the shrine stood was an extensive area. But with the establishment of the modern Kobe city the place has to be reconstructed. So the presumable spots of battles cannot be memorialized on the shrine's ground anymore due to the lack of space. Presently two very admirable Noh plays (Noh is a form of traditional Japanese musical drama comprising of folk, popular and aristocratic art forms), Ebira and Ikuta Atsumori takes place at this spot regularly, which entertains the tourists very much. The Ikuta Autumn Festival is celebrated here when these two plays are being staged.| Hotels in Kobe | |
