Kazami-dori-no-Yakata or the residence of Old Thomas is one of the elaborate and magnificent mansions of the Kobe city. A german architect who was professionally a trader designed it is listed as an important cultural Property of the state. It has no entry fee and is located near Kitano Tenman Jinja at the top of the hill. The interiors of the house reflects ethnic German taste and the Western styled furniture and the antiques makes it attractive to the tourists.

The Kazami-dori-no-Yakata mansion was completed in the year 1909. The design of the manor is very simple. It's a double storeyed building with a basement, attic room and a basement tower house. The brick lining of the exteriors give it a grandiose look from outside and creates an aura around the mansion. The house is located on an area of 607.30meter square. Visitors like the Kazami-dori-no-Yakata mansion exceptionally. The brown withered house set against the hills looks enigmatic especially at the sunset. Nothing much has changed in the vicinity of the house except the addition of a few bronze statuettes playing musical instruments. A visit to this mansion is must, if you want to have a feel of the ancient lifestyle of Kobe.
