Kansai International Airport

Japan - Fukuoka - Kobe - Nagoya - Tokyo - Osaka - Hiroshima - Kyoto - Yokohama
Opened on 4th September, 1994, Kansai International Airport handles more than 500 international flights per day. Some of the most well known Japanese airlines use this airport for landing and take off. Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways and Nippon Cargo Airlines are some of the carriers that use Kansai International Airport. The north wing of this huge terminal handles some of the most conspicuous international carriers such as Air Canada, Cathay Pacific, China Southern Airlines, Korean Air, United Airlines etc. The south wing likewise handles carriers like Air France, Air India, Air New Zealand and Lufthansa, among a host of other reputed airlines.

Stretched to 1.7 kilometer, the Kansai International Airport terminal is the longest in the world. The roof of this terminal, for better air circulation, is shaped like an airfoil. A glass partition separates the ticket counter from the international departure and arrival lounges.

Kyoto city does not have an airport. The international passengers coming at Kansai International Airport either take a train ride or a bus ride from the airport to reach Kyoto. There are two railroad operators: West Japan Railway and Nankai Electric Railway. The Haruka Express train, run by the West Japan Railway, ferries passengers between the airport station and the Kyoto station. The best part is that the train station is only 100 meters away from the second floor of the airport building. The travelers thus do not have to waste time to get on to the train. However one important point should be kept in mind - only trains running on the JR railway track reach Kyoto. The service is very efficient with trains leaving the Kansai International Airport station at every 30 minutes interval. The journey to Kyoto takes around 75 minutes. The cost is 3400 Yen per person. The ticket can be purchased either by credit card or Yen.

Kansai International Airport has various kiosks selling tickets to travelers for a bus ride to Kyoto city. Some of the major bus services that operate from the airport are Airport Limousine Bus, JR Bus Kanto, Keisei Bus, Odakyu Bus and Tokyu Bus. However, besides these providers, many other local bus companies taxi passengers from the airport to Kyoto. Airport Limousine buses head for Kyoto at regular intervals throughout the day.
