Kyoto is a city that boasts of rich cultural and historical heritage. Asahi Beer Oyamazaki Villa Museum, Kyoto is one of premier museums of the city, which is visited by thousands of travelers visiting Kyoto. The museum actually a villa, was owned by a businessman of Osaka, Shotaro Kaga. He took the initiative to transform the villa to a museum. Today, the museum comprises of the original villa owned by Shotaro Kaga and a new building designed by the architect Tadao Ando.

The museum showcases the traditional art and crafts of Japan. You can also see here some of the artifacts of the renowned artists of Japan. Most of the collection in the museum comprises of ceramics but then you can also see other items like lacquer ware, dyed cloth, textiles, Japanese- and Western-style paintings, and modern sculpture. The new building of the museum known as the “The New Hall”, houses Claude Monet’s “Water Lilies”.

One of the highlights of the museum is its architecture. The architecture of the museum is a concoction of the old and the new. The old Western Tudor-style villa and the new building featuring geometric patterns made by Tadao Ando complement each other and mesmerize the visitors with their opulence.

Asahi Beer Oyamazaki Villa Museum is conveniently located. You can take the JR Kyoto Line train from Osaka Station to JR Yamazaki station; the museum is situated within 10 minutes walking distance from the station. You can also opt for the Hankyu Kyoto Line train from Hankyu Umeda Station to Hankyu O-yamazaki Station. The museum is located within walking distance from the Hankyu O-yamazaki Station. There are also regular bus services from these stations to the museum.

The museum is open from 10 am to 5 pm from Tuesday to Sunday. It is closed on Mondays and in between 28th December to 4th January. The museum’s admission fee is 700 yen for the general public; 500 yen for the High school students and 300 yen for people possessing physical disability certificates. Junior High school and elementary school students do not have to pay any entry fee.
