Hosomi Art Museum is a highly acclaimed private museum which showcases changing exhibits of Buddhist and Shinto Art. These exhibits are primarily taken from temples and shrines in Kyoto and Nara. Apart from these artworks, other exhibits that you can come across at the Hosomi Art Museum are Heian bronze mirrors, Buddhist paintings, lacquerware, tea-ceremony objects, scrolls, folding screens, and pottery. The Hosomi Art Museum building is starkly modern in contrast to the historic objects that it contains. You will come across automatic doors that open and clang shut with the finality of a prison. It takes about 30 minutes to walk through the museum and every minute of it is worthwhile. While visiting the museum you must ensure that you browse through the gift shop selling finely crafted goods.
The Hosomi Art Museum in Kyoto, located in a corner of Okazaki Park exhibits various works of art of Japan. Most visitors who enter the museum treasure all forms of Japanese art which span across all ages right from the Yayoi Period to the Edo Period. These exhibits keep on changing and you can enjoy a different exhibit in a different season.
The museum was opened in 1998. It is open everyday from 10AM till 6 PM from Tuesday to Sunday. The museum is closed every Monday. In order to get admission to the museum all visitors must pay a fee. The admission fee for adults is 700 Yen or $5.85. University students and children can enter the museum by paying 500 Yen or $4.15.
Getting to Hosomi Art Museum is convenient and not a problem. You could take the Higashiyama Subway and take the 2nd or the 5th exit. There are a number of buses that you can also avail of such as bus numbers 31,201, 202 or 206 Higashiyama-Nijo. The museum is one of the popular attractions of Kyoto and attracts a large crowd on weekends. Footfall on normal days is also high as people are charmed by the modern architecture and the rich historical heritage of the museum.
