Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto is located in Okazaki in the heart of Kyoto. The museum is an architectural marvel and is a very popular tourist attraction in Kyoto. The design of the Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art was kept very modest because of its location in a scenic district. The museum was completed in 1986 and comprises of four floors and a basement. The museum showcases modern art work by Japanese and a number of foreign artists. Some of the works on display at the museum include the paintings of Matisse and Ryuzaburo Umehara, and the ceramic art of Kawai Kanjiro. In addition to these great works, you can get great views of Higashiyama and also enjoy the beautiful museum building. The Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art offer space for a variety of functions including temporary and permanent exhibition spaces. There are spaces for storage and also an auditorium. Besides these, there is also an auditorium which is used for screenings and other programs. A restaurant, restrooms and wheel chair facilities are available for the benefit of the visitors. The main mode of communication is Japanese. It is advisable that you have an interpreter once you go on a tour to of the museum. There are however, pamphlets available inside the museum in English. The museum is open everyday from 9:30AM till 5 PM from Tuesday to Sunday. The museum is closed every Monday and the following day if Monday is a holiday. The museum also remains closed for a couple of days in the end of the year from December 28th to January 4th. Admission charges are applicable at the Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art. Adults to gain entry to the museum must shell out 420yen. College students and senior high school students have to pay 130yen. There are no admission charges for junior high school students, elementary school students, and children below the age of six years. Group discounts are also available at the Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art. You can avail of a 50% discount on admission charges if you enter in a group of minimum 20 people or more. Other discounts may be availed of by contacting the museum authorities in advance.
