The Land of the Rising sun, Japan is an archipelago of more than 3,000 islands. Situated in East Asia, the chain of island lies between the North Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan and is east of the Korean Peninsula.

The Kyoto Prefecture is almost in the center of the island of Honshu in Japan. It has an area of 4612.71 km², which accounts for about 1.2% of the area of Japan. Kyoto is 31st largest prefecture of Japan. In the north, Kyoto is surrounded by the Sea of Japan and Fukui Prefecture. Its south faces Osaka and Nara Prefectures. To its east, lie the Mie and Shiga Prefectures and on the western side, it faces Hyogo Prefecture. The Tanba Mountains run through the middle of the Kyoto Prefecture.

The Kyoto City was Japan's capital and the emperor's abode from 794 to1868. This ancient city is now the country's seventh largest city and is home to 1.4 million people and has developed a modern outlook.

Kyoto City

The Kyoto city is on the middle-western portion of the island of Honshu. The city is surrounded by mountains and this is often attributed to cause the suffocating night temperatures the city experiences at night.

Kyoto is encircled on three sides by Higashiyama, Kitayama and Nishiyama mountains, with altitudes of nearly 1000 meters above sea level.

Kyoto has a huge reservoir of water in its underground water table is the source of the City’s abundant water supply.
