The Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Garden of Kyoto is the first botanical garden of Japan. Founded in the year of 1924, the garden is spread over an area of 240,000 square meters. The Kamogawa River situated in front of the Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Garden only manifolds the beauty of the place. The Kitayama-dori Street is not very far either.

You will find about 12000 species of flower, herbs and plants. This huge collection makes it one of the leading botanical gardens not only in Kyoto, but in the entire country. There is a conservatory in the botanical garden. The Useful Plants Garden is home to some of the very useful plants that are found in Japan. You can enjoy a wonderful outing amidst this lush green heaven. The children are going to love a day out in here, as the garden has a playground for children.

The costs of the tickets to enter the Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Garden are also quite reasonable. Adults have to pay 200 yens. But the students and children are given tickets at a concession. For high school students, the ticket costs 150 yen. Junior high school students and students of elementary schools are given tickets at 80 yens per head. The same rate structure is applicable for an entry to the Greenhouse. The Greenhouse also has a collection of 4500 species and 25000 plants.

Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Garden is open all seven days of a week. It usually opens its gates for visitors at nine o’ clock in the morning and closes down at 5 o’ clock in the evening. Also, admission to the Greenhouse is open until 3-30 pm. Though, admission to the garden is closed after 4pm. Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Garden remains closed from 28th December to 4th January. the timing changes from 8-40am to 6-30pm. But from 21st October to 20th February, the timings go through another rescheduling and the park is closed at 5pm.

The Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Garden authority has made the entry free for the elder citizens, who are over 60 years of age. Check out the Botanical Garden Hall, which consists of multi-purpose gardening room, exhibit room, training room, resting room, restaurant etc. Get down at the Kitayama station and take the bus service that takes you to the Kitamon-mae stop. For that matter, there are many bus and train services available to reach Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Garden, the greatest garden in Japan.
