Kurama Kyoto

The rural town of Kurama is located at a distance of about an hour from the Kyoto city center in the northern mountains. Kurama, as a tourist destination, is popular because of its temple Kurama-dera and its hot spring and its hot spring. In fact, the hot spring at Kurama is the most easily accessible hot springs from Kyoto.

Kurama also offer outdoor and indoor baths at Kurama Onsen, which is a ryoken located at the upper end of the town. The place can be easily reached from the train station in 10 minutes time. The ryoken offers accommodation for guests and also offer them free use of the baths. Other users need to pay 2500 yen per person for using the baths.

The main attraction of the city, a Buddhist temple, known as the Kurama-dera temple, is located at a distance in the slopes above the town. Another attraction at Kurama is the Yuki Jinja, a shrine that is popular for its fire festival. This festival, known as Kurama Hi Matsuri, is held every year on 22nd October.

The town also offers many hiking trails through the many forests and valleys. Hike from Kurama to Kibune, a small town in the neighborhood, is quite popular amongst visitors. This hike becomes steep at times and takes about one hour’s time. The small town of Kibune offers several ryokens and restaurants.

Kurama can be easily reached. The city is connected with central Kyoto by Eizan Railway and takes about 30 minutes to reach Kurama station from Demachi-Yanagi Station. The tickets cost about 410 yen and there is a train in every 15 to 20 minutes.
