Soothing jazz, modern decor, excellent food, and an enthusiastic, English-speaking staff make this a good choice in the heart of the city. Its namesake is none other than that great dame of mystery writers, with many set meals named after Agatha Christie characters. There are also more than 50 different kinds of skewered food, grilled over charcoal, available from the English-language menu, including such yummies as Kyoto chicken with garlic butter, baby eggplant, cheese and salami kabob, scallop wrapped in bacon, and chicken with plum sauce. Sets include an appetizer, salad and grilled chicken in various forms. You can choose a la carte or try a dinner set from around JPY2, 000. There is also a full drink menu, including draught beer and wines. Wash it all down with Agatha's original sake. The snack charge, by the way, is waived if you order a set meal. Itadori Located in a recently renovated two-story traditional townhouse (machiya), Itadori serves Kyoto cuisine with a modern touch. Zac Baran 1 This fashionable basement restaurant is popular with the younger crowd who enjoys the subdued lighting, cool music, modern decor and light modern Japanese cuisine.
