The restaurant is located just to the east of the main downtown nexus of Shijo and Karamachi streets, Papamilano is one of a rash of imitations of la dolce vita to spring up in Japan since the early 1990s. The waiters and waitresses are dressed in the requisite brown uniforms.

The decor is a modern reconstruction of a downtown Italian cafe with counter bar and lots of stained dark wood in evidence. It is popular with commuters who want to imagine themselves in Milan or Rome.

The pasta is hot and just-cooked and the Pizza is hand-made and has a just-baked crispy quality. With the salad full of fresh organic vegetables and hand-crafted desserts, it is at last possible to eat authentic Italian food at a reasonable price. Furthermore, as the content of the recommended menu of seasonal vegetables changes according to the season, it is possible to enjoy a new taste experience on every visit. There is also a wide variety of beverages. In addition to the 20 varieties of Italian wine, there are 50 types of cocktails (all 600 yen), which are particular popular among the female clientele. As it is open until 11PM (last order is at 10PM), it is convenient not only for people working in the area but those who wish to stop by on the way home from concerts and events at the International forum. Private parties (reservation necessary) are also possible. All of the staff celebrates with customers who come on their birthday.

No reservations are required. Credits are accepted. There is a smoking area in the restaurant.
