While visiting north-west Kyoto to see the famous temples of Kinkakuji and Ryoanji pay a visit to York House Italian restaurant for good value lunches and tasty evening meals. Elegant, classy and spacious, this European style eatery is elegant, classy and spacious. It has been in business since the 60s and uses the freshest, imported Italian ingredients to produce a variety of inventive pasta, pizza and a la carte dishes. The evening set course is also good value at 3800 yen and includes a starter, risotto or pasta, fresh salad, fish or meat main course, dessert and coffee. The full menu includes a wide range of pastas from 700 yen, pizza from 680 yen, salads from 750 yen and a good selection of quality Italian wines, draft Lowenbrau and grappa. Vegetarian options are also available on demand. York is famous for its rich desserts and cakes and is open as a cafe between lunch and dinner. The secluded and modern dining area is subtly lit and pleasantly furnished. La Botte La Botte boasts an Italian chef proud of his original pizzas and pastas with over sixty dishes on the menu. La Botte seats sixty inside and there is also an attractive alfresco wooden terrace overlooking the Kamo River, which is extra at JPY400 on weekdays and JPY600 on holidays. Bocconi Bocconi is a well-designed, Italian-inspired European-style restaurant. Next door under the same York management is a store selling imported kitchen furniture, utensils, ceramics and whole fitted kitchens. It is placed near Kinkakuji. Papamilano Located just to the east of the main downtown nexus of Shijo and Karamachi streets, Papamilano is one of a rash of imitations of la dolce vita to spring up in Japan since the early 1990s. The waiters and waitresses are dressed in the requisite brown uniforms. Tavetarina Japanese-Italian is a good description of the food at Tavetarina's. It is Mediterranean cuisine adopted and adapted to suit the Japanese palette. So expect a little bit of soy sauce to complement the olive oil.
