The Nagoya City Art Museum is located in the picturesque Shirakawa Park in central Nagoya. A handsome gate that can also be used for exhibitions outside welcomes visitors to the Museum. The Nagoya City Art Museum's occupies an area of 2,167 sq mts. The Museum has two floors apart from a single basement floor.

The Nagoya City Art Museum embarked on the static journey of exhibitions in 1983 with the object of promoting regional artistic and cultural accomplishments. In line with its founding aims, this Museum in Nagoya collected the art works of artists like Tamiji Kitagawa, Setsuko Migishi, Shusaku Arakawa, On kawara, and Tadaaki Kuwayama and also the works of Ecole de Paris and Mexican Renaissance.

The paintings that effused out of the richness of Mexican Renaissance found their way into the Nagoya City Art Museum are works of painters like Jose Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Rufino Tamayo and Frida Kahlo.

The Nagoya City Art Museum has also allotted a generous space to contemporary art as well. Some of the painters who have espoused the latest course in art and are vying for room in the Museum are Shusaku Arakawa, Tadaaki Kuwayama, and On Kawara.
