The Nagoya City Art Museum embarked on the static journey of exhibitions in 1983 with the object of promoting regional artistic and cultural accomplishments. In line with its founding aims, this Museum in Nagoya collected the art works of artists like Tamiji Kitagawa, Setsuko Migishi, Shusaku Arakawa, On kawara, and Tadaaki Kuwayama and also the works of Ecole de Paris and Mexican Renaissance.
The paintings that effused out of the richness of Mexican Renaissance found their way into the Nagoya City Art Museum are works of painters like Jose Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Rufino Tamayo and Frida Kahlo.
The Nagoya City Art Museum has also allotted a generous space to contemporary art as well. Some of the painters who have espoused the latest course in art and are vying for room in the Museum are Shusaku Arakawa, Tadaaki Kuwayama, and On Kawara.
