The Nagoya Castle Nagoya

Japan - Fukuoka - Kobe - Nagoya - Tokyo - Osaka - Hiroshima - Kyoto - Yokohama
The Nagoya castle is one of the main attractions of the city and people coming into this Japanese city should pay a visit to this castle which was built way back in the beginning of the seventeenth century.

The Nagoya castle was built by the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu and was used as a residence of the Tokugawa family for nearly two centuries. Unfortunately most of the castle was destroyed in the US raids during the Second World War. The castle was later reconstructed using Ferro-concrete in the late sixties and today it stands nearly fifty meters tall and presents a panoramic view of the city.

The Nagoya castle is also famous for the golden dolphin or shachi roof decorations. The beauty of the castle is increased manifold by the surrounding gardens that lend a unique dimension to the entire landscape through the wide variety of flora and fauna. The interior of the castle also houses a kind of museum that has a lot of interesting artifacts like painting, armors, etc. Luckily all these treasures had survived the onslaught of the war that had engulfed the island nation.

The Nagoya castle is open on all days of the week from 9 in the morning to 4:30 in afternoon.
