Jogging, as a form of exercise, originated in England in the mid 17 th c. Jogging came to be known as 'roadwork' in the United States when athletes, in training, customarily ran several miles each day as part of their exercise. No longer an exclusive part of a sportsman's regimen, jogging became immense popular among the common people during the 1960s or 1970s.
Being one of the most sports-minded cities in Japan, no wonder that Osaka is fast catching up with the craze for jogging. Although it is still a long way from being considered as a sport, jogging is getting serious attention as the most important form of exercise in Osaka.
